Adidas unveiled the Messi 16+ PureAgility on 24 May 2016 as part of the "Mercury Pack," a release timed for the Copa América Centenario and Euro 2016 tournaments that summer. Successive colorways followed roughly every one to three months through the 2016–17 season: the "Speed of Light Pack" launched in July 2016; "Space Dust" launched 11 October 2016 (preceded by an extremely limited "10/10" edition that sold out the day before); "Red Limit" was announced 24 November 2016 for Barcelona's return to domestic action that weekend; "Blue Blast" was reported in January 2017 for a late-January 2017 launch; and "Turbocharge" launched 23 March 2017, described by SoccerBible as the fifth colourway in the signature Messi series that cycle.
