Best Messi Boots to Buy in 2026

Messi is still playing, which means this page has to answer two questions that rarely have the same answer: what should you buy to play in, and what should you buy because it is his. In August 2026 those two answers are genuinely different boots, at different prices, on different versions of the F50 platform.

Everything below was checked against live retailer listings on 26 August 2026. Prices move — often within days on a line this heavily discounted — so treat every figure here as a snapshot with a date on it, not a standing quote. Where we could not confirm a number from a listing we could actually open, we left the number out rather than round something plausible into the gap.

What's actually on sale right now

Three 2026 Messi colorways are on general sale new: the Hora Dorada, the World Cup El Último Tango, and the earlier Aurora Radiante. (A fourth 2026 release, the limited Tunit remake, is covered under collecting below.) Here is what we could verify, retailer by retailer, on 26 August 2026.

Two things that table tells you. First, the newest boot is the most expensive and the least discounted — the World Cup Elite is holding $280 while the Hora Dorada Elite has already been cut to $203 at one retailer. Second, the size runs are collapsing. Several of those listings had a single size left when we opened them, which is what the back half of a boot's retail life looks like.

We could not load adidas.com's own Messi storefront to verify its prices directly, so no adidas-set price appears in that table. Every figure above comes from a third-party retailer listing we opened and read on the date shown.

If you want the boot he actually plays in

Buy the Hora Dorada.

This is the interesting story of the year, and most roundups miss it. The Hora Dorada released on 14 April 2026 in an Ice Tangerine/Gold Metallic/Pure Tangerine colorway, ahead of the World Cup. When Messi returned to Inter Miami training after the tournament, boot spotters expected him to stay in his World Cup edition. He did not — Footy Headlines reported him lacing up the Hora Dorada for his first session back, describing it as "based on the old-gen Messi cleat, without the tongue."

That "old-gen" label is verifiable in the retail copy rather than just vibes. ProSoccer's Hora Dorada Elite listing names a HYBRIDTOUCH upper and a SPRINTFRAME 360 outsole. The same retailer's El Último Tango Elite listing names a HYBRIDTOUCH+ upper and an F50 SPEEDSYSTEM+ outsole, described there as "a super lightweight LX outsole with bladed studs." Two different platform generations, sold side by side, with the older one on the feet of the player whose name is on both.

Nobody has explained the switch on the record, and we are not going to invent a reason. What we can say is that if your goal is to wear what Messi wears, the answer right now is the older and cheaper boot, not the newer and dearer one. If you want the World Cup boot

Buy the El Último Tango.

This is the boot built for his last World Cup, in an Ivory/Semi Blue Burst/Ice Blue colorway drawn to echo the boots he wore at his first one in 2006. The Elite FG carries style code IH1892 and was $280.00 at The Soccer Factory on 26 August 2026, in a complete 6.5–12 size run — the healthiest stock position of any boot on this page. In Europe, Unisport listed the same boot at €237.95 reduced from €279.95, and ProSoccer's UK store at £210.28.

A date our sources disagree on. Footy Headlines reported the boot as available from Friday 5 June 2026. SneakerShouts gives an original release of 13 July 2026 with a restock on 17 July. Those may be describing a global reveal and a separate US drop, but we have not confirmed that, so we are printing both rather than picking one quietly. If you're buying on a budget

The Messi signature line runs in tiers, and the gap between top and bottom is large. Verified adult prices on 26 August 2026: Elite at $269.99–$280.00, Pro at $159.99, League at $94.99. That is roughly a third of the Elite price for the League, in the same colorway.

The honest advice is that almost nobody reading this needs the Elite. The League gets you the colorway, the silhouette and the story for under a hundred dollars. One caution: we are not printing a spec-by-spec comparison here. Retailer copy for these tiers repeats a lot of shared adidas boilerplate that looks like a differentiator and is not, and we would rather send you to the guide that handles it properly than half-do it in a paragraph.

If you're buying for a child

Both current colorways have full youth ladders, and they are much gentler on the wallet. If you're collecting rather than playing

Collecting is a different game, because the pairs worth having are mostly ones you can no longer buy new.

The current-season exception is the F50 Messi Elite Tunit (2026 Remake), a modern reworking of the +F50.6 Tunit he wore at the 2006 World Cup. Footy Headlines dates the remake's availability to 13 January 2026, and coverage we checked reports adidas confirming it as a limited release rather than a mass launch, aimed at both playing and collecting. We could not confirm a US retail price from any listing we opened — the same coverage notes adidas had not confirmed final pricing across all markets — so we are not printing one.

Beyond that, the 2025 run is a halfway case. The F50 Messi "Prestig10" and F50 Messi "Vis10n" were still on sale new on 26 August 2026 — Prestig10 Elite at $199.00 and Vis10n Elite at $242.99 at Soccer Village, Vis10n Elite at $270.00 at The Soccer Factory. La Vida Tropical and everything older is a secondary-market hunt, and that is where the boots collectors actually want live: the X Speedportal Messi "Leyenda" he won the World Cup in, the Nemeziz Messi 19.1 "Ballon d'Or" and the F50 adiZero IV "Battle Pack".

We deliberately quote no resale figures on this page. We tried to read StockX's market data on 26 August 2026 and the pricing panel did not load, so we have nothing verified to report — and resale numbers go stale faster than retail ones anyway. Why we refresh this page rather than replace it

Most "best boots of the year" pages get thrown away every January and rewritten from scratch, which is why they read like they were written by someone who has never watched the player. We keep one page and update it, for two reasons.

The first is that the interesting information is the delta. That Messi released a World Cup boot and then went back to the previous generation is only visible if the same page has been tracking both. Wipe the page annually and you lose the comparison that made it worth reading.

The second is prices. Every figure here carries the date we checked it, because a boot roundup without dates is just a list of numbers someone once believed.
